Lovely picture. It looks like the individual florets are larger than in most "spike" veronicas -- is that true? And are there other varieties that are similar?

Yes, the individual flowers are larger than most of the spike-type speedwells. This plant flops more than I like... but it's a beautiful intense blue. Veronica gentianoides is another with larger flowers.
