Now we're giving haircuts?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I must've missed the thread about the purpose of a haircut.
At this point id do anything to get these plants to bloom, i'm just about ready to rip them all out and go back to zinnias and marigolds, lol. I fertilize, water, weed, drip sweat on to them (ewwww) fight the fire ants through the mulch, sometimes even give blood when a wild blackberry intertwines...WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT?????
Somebody help me please!!!!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

patience?

Maybe try some DE to get rid of the fire ants in the mulch. I know what you mean Jen. I've been there too. When you get some blooms though, you will re-think getting rid of them.

Jen, I think cutting leaves might delay the flowering. Seems like the ones I keep the leaves cut off of grow taller first then put out buds. I think Monika said something about not cutting above the Y.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Calla - I'm not cutting the stems - just the leaves below the Y. I want Irish's canopy effect. I found that the new little leaves snuggled up close to the stem were the ones where the aphids were hiding.
BTW - tomorrow is M's hospital date. Say your prayers tonight everybody.

Enlighten me............ what if i do not want my brug to Y yet but want it to keep growing up, up and away? If I pinch out 1/2 of the Y just as it starts, will that work?
thanks

Kell, no, once it Y's I don't think you can make it grow straight anymore. I could be wrong, I'm just learning too.
