Pond Temperature

Lewiston, ID(Zone 5b)

I have 17 fish (koi and mixed goldfish) in my 16' X 20' pond which is in full sun with at least half of the water covered by water plants. The temperature is in the high 90's and will be for a couple of months. Do I need to worry about water temperature in the pond? There is moving water over a three tier waterfall.

Whew!!! I don't know but we have 90's and 100's here but my pond is mostly shaded...is this a new pond for you? Seems like the sun will heat it up more too!

If I were you I would do a search on the internet to find your answer!

Good Luck!

i really don't think you'll have any problems. mine is in full sun too, and I'm further south. keep your lilies or whatever growing to give more surface shade.

My water gets into the 90s also. If my fish start to look rather lethargic (don't swim around alot) I float jugs of ice in it. It may not cool the water alot but it sure makes me feel better. lol Happy Ponding!! "T" :)

Just provide a lot of water circulation to prevent loss of oxygen. That will also cool water down some. My water is hot also, and haven't lost any fish. I have a nice water fall and also a water bell to circulate the water. GOOD LUCK.

Hey, thanks all of you guys. The fish seem happy and I keep checking the temp.

I have a pond in full sun in Gulfport, right on the coast. It gets really warm but a lot of people in my area run water into the pond often. My fish are living but half of them have a sunburn. I crowd the pond with plants and, of course, everyone is generous, giving me more.
