Have you ever wondered, Why would God do something for me that I ought to be able to do for myself? See this http://davesgarden.com/journal/si/7454.html for today's devotional, which addresses that dilemma. And it doesn't just apply to dieting; seems like a lot of these devotionals relate to many areas of our lives beyond food, doesn't it?
I know I struggle with thinking I always have to really measure up before I can ever expect anything, and because of that I often stress myself out by trying to do too much all at once. Or, sometimes, I do the opposite and do nothing for fear of failing. The thing is, I know in my head (and some in my heart) that's not how God sees things. That feeling of needing to be perfect before turning to God for help is like a man taking a bath so he's clean enough to take a bath. What does he think the bath is for?
So, turn to Him just as you are. He can handle it -- your past doesn't matter and you're sure not going to surprise Him by anything you say. He can help you turn things around. The relationship and trust have to come before the discipline, I think. We're more than just bodies, fat or thin.
Yesterday it was pretty hot in the afternoon, and that's when I chose to go out and water the plants. Well, I didn't exactly *want* to right then, but one look out the window at my poor nursery stock made me forget the heat and humidity and take care of my green babies. Some of them aren't so green right now, though! I think I sweated off several pounds just watering stuff, LOL.
So, what are you up to today?
