I'm wondering if this Shredded White will ever completely open up. It is taking forever. I can smell it at night now, even tho it is pretty close to the ground and I'm not a big one for bending if I don't have to. Well, in this case I had to smell it, so I did bend. The fragrance is good, but not spectacular. I just want to see it OPEN!!
Ugly or what??
Is it supposed to open up? I thought it just stayed mangled.
Ms Brugie, that's about it. i like the way these smell much better than the stronger fragrance.
Looks like it has peanut butter stuck to the roof of it/s little mouth..........

I like it! Looks like it would be a very large flower if it ever did open up all the way.
It is more open tonight. Just appears to be opening on one side at this point. Will check tomorrow and when and if it does open all the way, I'll get a picture.
Mine was white when it was completely open. Posted a pic of it a few days ago. It looks like yours will be open soon.

Isn't it tough to be patient???
I think it stays that way..I have never seen a pic of an open flower of it... :-)
Gee, and I thought this one was open http://davesgarden.com/showforumphoto.php?imageid=13347 LOL So, what does open look like in Shredded White?
Jean
Jean, your picture is more open than mine ever got. Mine seemed to be stuck in a wad on one side and just wouldn't unfurl. It finally started turning brown on the edges so I picked it and kind of tried to open it. Sure would have been huge and pretty if it would have opened. I can honestly say that if the rest of the blooms don't look better than the first one, it will not be in my inventory next year.
Burgie, maybe the rest of you blooms will look better for you. I was just looking at the ones posted by Barbara and Gloria and think mine is some where in between as far as opening. Well, since this is the first and only bloom for me, it will be interesting to see what the next blooms bring. Anyway, I think I will keep it, as I do like odd and unusual things.lol

I'm just going to hold my breath for the next one. It is half open today. Of course, we had a storm and it is covered with dirt now too. I'm just sooooo lucky!!
It rained here this afternoon for the first time in weeks and weeks, we were just plain bone dry. I went outside and did the happy dance in the rain and I do think the brugs were smiling! lol!

Jean, I'm so glad I don't have to drag the garden hose around tomorrow. It gets heavy with about 175 ft. of it now. Sure would be nice to have a faucet out by the garden. Sure glad you got some rain too. We got an inch of the wet stuff and I'm not complaining, even though the weeds will really grow now.
Shirley, you hand water all your plants? Wow and you have a huge lot. I thought I was the only one left with no automatic irrigation system! I used to love it for I would daydream as I did it but now I just do not have the time. I now dream of an automatic system!!!
Me too, do glad it rained! It takes me a while to water the new plants and the water hogs like cannas and bananas. Do have a faucet out by the well where my biggest garden is. In the past I was dragging hoses around to water everything. This year, I bought some of those 'Y' connectors, shut-offs, and hundreds of feet of hose. Ran the hoses to different areas of the gardens and hide them with pine straw. I now have a network of hoses. Turn the faucet on and there is water available to each area. Sure makes it easier. With our serve drought, I have to be stingy with the water and water just enough to keep plants in the ground alive. My gardens look like minatures of last year...the only bright note, the weeds are dying from thirst! Do hope your Shredded White puts on a better show for you with the next blooms!

Kell, I usually mix a barrel of fertilized water to use on pots, but my brugs in the garden have soaker hoses running down the rows. I couldn't stand out there long enough to hose water them. Would melt in the heat. When they need fertilizer, I will just sprinkle it on the ground around them and hose it in quickly and then let the soaker hoses do the rest.
Jean, I wish I could do that, but we have no place to hide a hose coming from the house. I always worry that I'll forget to wind them up and hit them with the mower. I use the Y connector on the soaker hoses so I can get it all done at one shot. Usually 45 minutes ever two days.
