Blue Ginger

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

if you were expecting a bloom, sorry!! :) Am I doing something wrong here? it's got brown tips so I moved to more shade, it was in light early morning sun. But it's not growing upright, see on both sides where the stems go down and then back up. Lots of food or not? does it look like it needs a bigger pot?

I'm no expert tiG, but I would put it in a bigger pot. Check to see if it's rootbound.

tig, looks like you have it in too much sun. Mine is in almost total shade. It really doesn't grow upright. Supposed to be in the wandering jew family.

Okay, got me scared here. Mine gets late morning to about 2 PM sun. I just checked in the Logee's catalog, where I bought it, and it says full or partial sun. Does that mean in the house or outside? I might have to move mine too. Mine is in a pot with other stuff. One of those huge clay pots. Will dig it up if necessary.

I moved it to almost full shade. will check in the am to see if it's potbound. Dee, you can look Friday if we think about it and see what you think!!

Mine did best in full sun. It got mealybugs and almost died, then I kept it too wet(it doesn't like wet feet) and now it's a little spring in the green house. It was about 4 feet tall and only grew upright because I staked it.

it doesn't appear to be in any danger, just wondered about the growth pattern. I really want to divide it and share, but I'm going to wait until after first bloom so I don't lose it. I have a bad habit of dividing something and then losing the part I keep!!! drives me nuts!

TiG, cuttings will root.

tell me more!

Don't take the cutting now, it won't bloom. I take cuttings after blooming, or in the spring is better, that way it has time to make branches and still bloom. I rooted it in vermiculite, just like everything else. ( I need comission from the vermiculite people) Keep it warm while it's rooting.
