I was in a garden centre today, and it's the very first time I have ever seen a huge lavender single bloom on a standard hibiscus..has anyone seen this before...the plant was $70 and I thought that was a bit of a stretch for me..Elaine

Was it hardy or tropical? Maybe you could sneak back and get seeds! He-He

Was it the hardy Hibiscus 'Fantasia'? That's about the only lavender one I know... unless it was a tropical.

It was definitely a tropical hibiscus! what a wonderful plant! Elaine

Was it a fancy hibiscus?? There is a beautiful lavender one on the cover page of this hibiscus site.

They now come in every color under the sun and every color combination. They are very expensive though and not hardy at all. I bought 5 last summer, 4 inchers and they were $10.99 each. I kept them on my porch next to my house and they still did not make it over winter. So sad. They were really beautiful, probably the most beautiful blooms I have ever seen.

PS: the blooms can be absolutely HUGE!!!
