June 21, problems with living in the swamps

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

The picture is very distorted...still can't use this camera right..lol...Yesterday I was making a batch of pralines when I heard the dogs bark. I thought to myself.."oh no, in the chicken coop". I put my things down and ran outside. There it was, the dogs have redeemed themselves. A huge snake! They had it cornered and were barking their heads off. The goats were in a frenzy. I ran to see if the snake was a bad one, upon closer inspection I realized it wasn't. It was a mud snake, but he was a nice size. I put a stick over his head and caught it. I know some of you are thinking I am nuts, but it sure was a pretty snake, he was glossy black with a bright orange belly. They eat rats & mice. I released him across the road and sent him on his merry way. When we first moved here, we were warned of all the snakes. I've been here 4 weeks and so far have seen 3 different snakes. The other day I had one crawling up the pillar of my house!
Anyone wanna come visit us??? LOL

Have a good day folks, counting my blessings that it wasn't a bad snake!
