Hummers tend to be fearless, probably because they're so fast. If you spend any time near a hum feeder, the birds get used to you. You can stick a finger under a hummer, especially if it's slurping from a feeder with no perches, and it'll drop its landing gear on your finger and continue to feed, perched. :)

Weak compared to other bird feet maybe, but they perch every chance they get in spite of what some people think and write. I read in a bird forum years ago that hummers do NOT perch. If they don't perch, they sit on their butts a lot. :)
Yes It happened to me ever years.. I would wear red shirt and stand next to the feeder.. Their feet are very tiny. One time I was shopping at mall.. Somehow I found a hummer on sidewalk. I picked and check it is alive somehow it did and flew away. I figured he went into window, hit and fell down.
