it was the Belfast Telegraph last night that in Norn Iron (local tongue) it has rained EVERY DAY for the last 5, yes FIVE, weeks. now that isnt continuous but rain has fallen every day.
for example take today.
up at 7.30 sunshine, take photos for mgp, rain by mid day, torrential by mid afternoon and now at 4pm hot hot hot and muggy.
summer at last! phah!!
Well, sorry Mark, it's another lovely day here today. It's still very muggy though from the thunder rain we had yesterday.
Loads of insects! Good weather for flycatchers and bats, lol
no rain (yet) today! yipppeee! mind you, there's time yet, lol
It has been hot in the last days, up to 37°C even up here at my homeplace in 600m elevation.
Mark,I would love to trade some of your rain for this heatwave!! It was 39° this afternoon, and it went down to a "cool" 36° now.I spend at least 4 hours a day watering everything in the 2 gardens,on the balcony,in the house...actually,when I finish on the computer, guess what I will be doing?
Monika,we are only 440m above sea-level,but I believe it is just as hot in the hills above the lake at 800m.
We have had lovely weather in Hamburg for the last three days, but last night at exactly 01:30 it rained like I haven't seen in years, and I thought we had had some heavy falls already. I was out for 20 minutes in it, and since it was so warm, I just got stripped down to the underpants, and tried to stake some plants up. No-one could see me at that time of the morning anyway, (I think).
My wife and wee boy now KNOW that I've lost it.... bats in the belfry, room to let between the ears, 2 sandwiches short of a picnic, call it what you like, they know i've now flipped over........
It was lovely again today, and now it's cloudy again, is that an ominous rumble I hear in the distance.... or was it the chicken vindaloo I had earlier!!!!!
Hope it was the vindaloo ;-)
Wintermoor
It's rained quite a bit here too, not in the last couple of days though. In my recollection (cos I've been stood out in it most years in the past 20) June is pretty much always wet for Hampshire.
Oh Wintermoor, you just made my day start with a good belly laugh, I can just picture you out there in your undies (Kelvin Klein's I hope ! ) doing battle with those plants. You sound like my sort of neighbour :-)We'll it seems that we're having three sunny hot days in a row, my shorts aren'y used to this, they crawl back in the drawer after a day ,waiting for next months sunny day.It shows my ignorence of other countries around me, I always assume that places like Switzerland ,Norway were nearly always cold, but my sister came back from a hol there, and said that it was hotter than here,(not that that's difficult)I'm starting to collect some seed heads today before I forget which are the ones I want to save!
Sueone,
a couple of years back, I was in the Highlands to do a bit of hill- and mountain walking, and a wee bit of climbing too, and the weather was so hot, I was almost dying up there.
I called my family (who had gone to Teneriffa for a week to get some sun), from the top of the Cuillin in Skye, and my wife nearly went daft. They had cold winds and rain for three days, and couldn't get near to a beach.
I had three burning hot weeks, and only on the day I was driving back down to Newcastle to get the ferry back to Hamburg, did I see any rain. So it's possible in Britain, YES even in Scotland, to have rain free and sunny periods.
All the best
Wintermoor
p.s. How do you know I wear Calvin Klein stuff?? ;-))
Wintermmr, no self-respecting gardener would be stood out in his undies unless it was designer wear surely?LOL
I do remeber one year my sister had gone to Greece in April to catch a bit of sun, and their weather was miserable, when she came back every one here had a tan, as we'd had a beautiful suuny easter , she was pig sick.! Told
her she shouldn't have wasted her money !!!
I had to go out to water my pots today, first time this year, forgot how quickly they dry out in the sun, never happy.
Just after I sent my last thread, it started bucketing down here, so I'm not going to tempt fate anymore ;-)
BTW one of my neighbours did see me, the noise of the rain had woken her up, and when she looked out of the window, there was I in my "swimming trunks" at my flower-beds. I'll be the talk of the laundry tomorrow......
Madly giggling in my new straight-jacket..
Wintermoor
Hope they let you out again Wintermoor, :-)bet your neighbour will be poised at her window , binoculars in hand every time it rains now !!!!
yesterday we had a scorcher of a day - for N Ireland anyway. it hit 22C but 10.30pm clouds rolled in fast and let loose on us.
Well, after my last thread,it finally rained, and the temps dropped to 33°.Still sunny today, even though rain has been forcasted for the whole weekend.
Gwist
Sorry Gwist but
They've changed the weather forecast and it's back to hot tomorrow and rain on Sunday.
Mark
We've had no proper rain here (like beyond a heavy shower accompanied by thunder) and I'm still having to do alot of watering. I want a cool rainy day so that I can feel at home (I'm from North Yorkshire!) but I don't hold out much hope. The tomatoes are enjoying it though and the acocha is taking over the balcony so some things enjoy this heat. It's cooled down to 29° today but it's all humid and sticky and horrid - oh for some of that Northern Irish rain!
