Jewels of Opar, Fame Flower (Talinum paniculatum)

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Closeup of bloom; flowers are small and delicate (not inconspicuous, but now showy like their Portulaca cousins.) The flowers are followed by ruby-red tiny seed pods that look like tiny jewels swaying above the foliage.

Common name: Jewels of Opar, Fame Flower
Family: Portulacaceae
Genus: Talinum
Species paniculatum

Hey, Terry--where do you keep yours? In or out? Pot or ground?

I've got one and I'm trying to decide where to put it. It's been in the house for about a year, new leaves but rangy. Think it'd be better outside? I'm in N. TX.

I put mine out as bedding plants. They do reseed readily - three years later I'm still finding seedlings every now and then ;o)

I live in Southeast Texas. This plant is extremely invasive. My mother got her original plants from her Father's house - that was 45 years ago. It still comes up all over the lawn as well as flower beds and pot plants!

Yes, those itty bitty seeds go EVERYWHERE when they're ripe.
