Beer Can Up the butt

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Somebody told me this is fabulous, and guess what it is!

Serves 2-4
For the rub:
1/4 cup coarse salt
1/4 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cut sweet paprika
2 tablespoons freshly ground black pepper

One 12-ounce can beer any kind
One 3 1/2 to 4/ pound chicken (I used 6#)
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
2 cups wood chips or chunks (preferably hickory or cherry) soaked for 1 hour in water and/or beer to cover then drained

Mix the rub, I cut the recipe in half so I didn't have to save any for another time.
Pour half the beer over the chips to absorb.
Put 2 more holes in the beer can with church key opener
Add a couple spoons of rub into the beer can
rub the chicken after cleaning with veg. oil and put a little rub inside both ends and then rub over the entire chicken.
Set the chicken on the open beer can (butt side over the can) Use the legs to make a tri-pod on the grill
Heat grill, add wood chips till smoking, stand chicken over the beer can like the tripod and cook at 350 for 1 1/2 hrs. or in my case 2 hrs. for 6 pound bird.
We put the wood chips on one side of the grill and chicken and potatoes on the other.
It smelled great and tasted even better!
