CC - we'll have to hound Evert. His just startded blooming so he'll have seeds soon. Hear that Evert? We'll be looking for you!! lol

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Wasnt he going out of town?Guess he's too far away to do a raid, huh?

CC and Poppysue, I have lots growing in the garden. They're about to flower so if I get seeds I'll save them for you. Otherwise I can probably buy you some fresh seeds at UBC Botanical Garden next time I'm in the city. Probably won't be for a while. It's best to plant them in the fall and put them in the garden in the Spring. Remind me.

my sister just brought me some from buchart gardens. I hope they will germinate

Pebble, if they're from Buchart Gardens, they will be good seeds.

Warrenton, OR(Zone 8b)

Does UBC Botanical Gardens or Buchard Gardens have a site we could order the seed on-line? Or maybeeee Brugcrazy would take orders (just for the poppies) next time she's in the city? Teisha

Please email me if anyone knows answers to above.

Crestedchick: My blue is in bud. I'm really pleased, since it hasn't bloomed the last two years. There are about seven buds, so seeds will follow later this summer. As for fresh seed, I have germinated seed that is two or three years old, but I have problems keeping them going indoors until I can set them out. This fall, I will direct sow them outdoors. Sounds like you've got some leads, but if things don't pan out, try me later this summer.

Karyn, don't you just know how much Evert and Weezin are enjoying our drooling with envy? LOL They can grow something and we can't! I am so jealous! Put me down for some fresh seed too! I got some in February from a local nursery who carry Unwin seed, they all germinated, but aphids got them when they were still only seed-leaves. I will plant them outside this fall, not indoors!

I takes awhile for the seeds to mature in our climate, so I may need a reminder in a month or so... I've got to start a list so I don't forget all of you!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Your right of course, they are enjoying our begging.....Just kidding.Well I have one packet of seeds ,not sure how old they are, should I try sowing outside in flats?

Seward, AK(Zone 3b)

Gee, I don't know, Crestedchick. Here's what I do know:

1.)I do know that seeds can be viable after a couple years or more, but I don't know the percentage of germination.

2.)I do know that they will germinate without stratification.

3.)I do know they will germinate indoors.

4.)I do know they grow very slowly.

Since my original plant seems to be pretty healthy, I'm hoping I can spread some seed in a nursery bed that doesn't need to be disturbed this fall , let them germinate in the spring, then let them gain size at their own rate.

The concern I would have, if I were you, is that starting the seeds outdoors now might mean that they would still be small when your summer heat hits, and I'm not sure it they would take a liking to that.

Do you know which blue poppy the seeds are from? Check the packet for the latin name. My plant was listed as a meconopsis grandis. I'd like to tell you that is what it is, but sometimes these tags are in error.

Karyn and Weezin, here in Zone 6 I am able to sow my annual poppies (rhoes) outside in the late summer; they germinate and stay small all winter; when they start to grow in the spring, they get huge. I would try to plant some of your seed outdoors soon, maybe late July/early August, Karyn, see if that might help to get them established this year. Might also prevent the dreaded first year flowering that seems to damage or kill them. Just a thought.

Sounds like a good idea to me!Thanks you guys. But I'm still begging some FRESH seeds,Would be kinda neat to see which one has better germination.
