This is an edible plant, aromatic. The leaves are used in urticaria. It is said to be good for digestion.
Common name: Cuban Oregano, Indian Borage
Family: Lamiaceae
Genus: Coleus
Species aromaticus
I left Bangalore in 1969 and have been looking for this plant ever since to treat my unpredictable bouts of Urticaria. Last week, I found the plant from a Nursery in Ohio in the United States and am cultivating it with great care. Although there are several excellent medicines to ward off Urticaria, these leaves are the cheapest and they cause no undesirable side-effects like some of the pills do. Thank you for your post.
I'm glad to hear this and glad you liked, tkh. Bangalore? 1969? Would you like to tell me about that? The plant is growing wild again and takes pruning well.

I am sorry Dinu that I did not acknowledge your mail from, way back, in March. I am originally from Gorur in Hassan District (Hemavathy Dam) but worked for the US Government in Afghanistan for several years.
My American born wife travelled recently from Bangalore to cover all the tourist spots in Mysore and has fond memories of the famed Brindavan Gardens.
I have had several requests across the United States for clippings of my Doddapatre Soppu and many of them are Kannadigas longing for the spicy taste of the leaves.
Best wishes from Georgia,
Krishna
Hello @Krishna... 2014, your reply was... and now 2019! Hope you are well and retain the same enthusiasm as 2014 and still hopping in here.. ... to see my highly delayed reply! There were a few unanswered messages I had sat over.
Since your last post, a friend gave me another variety of this plant, with variegation on the edges of leaves [light yellow]. I notice thinner leaves. Glad you are sharing your plant there half way round the world!
My first penfriend way back in 1979 was from Gorur, one Mr. Murthy. Had visited the Gorur dam with our dept. group... from a distance.
In fact, just now my DW had prepared bajji from this 'doddapatre' leaves. Its aroma had vanished!
Take care....
Dinu
