Okay, here is the part where you all yell, 'it will be cool!' or 'your idea sucks!'. LOL There was a swimming pool here and now it is elsewhere. That lumber is being recycled and I thought it might be and interesting shape for a water garden/small pond. I decided to dig out the deep part first then go back and shave down the plant ledge (which is the flat spot right inside the wood). Right now it is approx. 12x6, but always subject to change! LOL I figure I will do one end three feet deep and the other end two feet deep with some sort of water feature. For now the plant ledge is 12 inches wide and I am going to drop it down 8-12 inches to accomodate pots. There is an electric outlet and spigot right on the other side of the deck. Have I thought of everthing?? So far, how does it sound??
Michele
Ps. NO, I am NOT using the plastic shovel to dig. lol I have 'help'.
I think I can!
How totally excellent!! I am soooo happy that you're doing this. And yes,,,you can. I would only suggest to keep one thing in the back of your mind....children. Is it going to be "raised" at all? The children in my neighborhood like to come over the "see my fish". But in doing that I always have the fear of one falling in. I would never forgive myself if something happened to one of them. But the layout sounds good. Keep digging!! Welcome to the wonderful world of water gardening. It's challenging but you'll enjoy it and so will the children. "T"
sounds really cool!!!!!!
I'll have to come by and see it when it's done :o)
Looks like a plan! I found the digging to be the hard part. Once that's over the rest is FUN!! ... 'cept lugging rocks in if you plan to use them around the edge.
You dig, dig, dig,
and plant those seeds.
You rake, rake, rake
and pull them weeds.
You wait, wait, wait
and soon you'll know
Your pond will be
just a glow.
I do plan to raise the edge up by 8-12 inches. For now, I am putting the timbers around it because I have extra, but as soon as I can come up with rock, I will be changing that. My plan is to put some white trellis up behind it with hosta in front of it. From the back, no one can really get to it because of the planter boxes on the deck. One would smack their head! LOL I plan to completely surround it with plants except for a small landing to feed the fishies which will be there, soon I hope. My kids know not to step on plants and we will work out a schedule for feeding. There is also a small pier between the planter boxes for looking down into it as well. If worse comes to worse, I can always put a small unobtrusive fence around it. Because we have a pool, the neighbor kids know they are not allowed in the back yard (through a gate which is kept locked in the summer) unless we are out. If they abuse that, they will not be invited back. Thanks so much for your comments and suggestions!!
Hugs CoCo! You sneaked in while I was typing. LOL
LOL. I think it will really look nice once it's all finished. Do take pictures of the before and after and all the inbetween.
Bad, you've got it. Did you say hosta? Hosta you say? My dear,,if you want green/white hosta check out what you'll receive in a few days and let me know. I've got lots more where that came from. "T"
You have to look at LMBO on the photo forum! The dog decided to help. LOL
