pond snails

Hi, I'm wondering how many snails you have in your ponds; what kind are best; do they do a good job of algae control and where do you recommend buying a good many of them? I am in zone 5 and want them to winter over.

I bought mine from Lilypons. The first batch I received were dead but the replaced them when I called. I've had them as long as I've had the pond - which is about 4 years now. They keep multiplying.

Applesnails are about the best to help keep it clean from what I've been told. Here you can get the huge ones for about $2. I had one in my pond last year and it laid eggs 4 times and I ended up with hundreds of little ones........LOL. I even sent some away to others with a piece of water lettuce so they stayed alive.

Thanks flowox and poppysue.
