James/ Dr. Suess#2

I can't take a picture of them side by side on the bush....James is growing in the compost and Dr. S is growing by the Gazebo.

they look way close...is this another one of those maybe its the same ones?Different names.Have you tried cross breeding them?

CC,
I agree with you...they do look an awful lot alike except the size. I will try the propagation thing as soon as Dr. Suess gets more flowers...I have some James pollen in the fridge. James is a super bloomer....it's been blooming non stop since my last posting on it. I guess I'll have to back and check how long that has been.

It started blooming about June 1st and its still blooming 9 days later....non stop.

They look the same to me too!The size difference is because of the nutrients in the compost..I can grow cannas in compost mix that get twice the normal size..because its so rich the first season. :-)

i agree and am so glad to know. would hate to end up with yet another Dr S, thinking it was something else. close enough for me! i imagined a slight color difference on account of the amount of fertilizer too i think

Gloria, this is off subject but just had to let you know that my Whiskers has bloomed and I love it. Wow!! what a plant. The bloom is beautiful and so are the leaves on this one. Thanks for this one.

close enough for me to do without too. I want them all, but it's taking about 3 hours just to fertilize as it is. have to pick up one of those sprayers payday!!

James.....the smaller of the two is growing in the compost.

Glory, what is the story of the leaf edges, texture and pubescence lol not to forget scent of the fls.?

Tonny,
The flower does have a very nice smell....different from Dr. Suess but the rest is about the same.
