Brenda, by and large, lilacs aren't well-adapted to the warmer parts of the country. In the cooler climates where they do well, they're still mostly dormant, or just coming out of dormancy.

And you may be asking yourself, why does that matter? Well, one of the easiest ways to propagate lilacs is from the "suckers" (rooted runners) they send out when they start growing, but it's still a little early for them.

Your best bet may be to post your question again around mid-May, and ask if anyone has extra rooted runners/suckers they'd be willing to share when they clear them out. I'm trying to find the ideal spot for a lilac bush or two myself, and then I'll be scouting around for some cuttings, too. Happy Gardening!
