Purple Cestrum

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Cala and Gloria, I got a purple cestrum from Kartuz. He actually called it blue. It isn't blooming but has buds, hope is does ok in the travel home. If it is the purple I will make you cuttings from it. I also got one that they crossed and made a hyrbrid of. It is really pretty, kinda like a pale lemon yellow, cross between the night blooming and nocturnum I think is what he said. Will have to check the notes.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

are you carrying all these plants around with you?? hmm...note to self, check her luggage!!! LOL!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Yep, I have them boxed up, will be checked in as luggage. I told you I always have the extra piece as luggage from where I go, just this one is a little bigger than I usually have. lol Just got carried away. I will open it up and show you the stuff. They will need the air anyway. Might be able to get cuttings on some of them I think.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I sure hope they make it like that!!! you can't take cuttings before you even get them home!!!!

TiG, if you get cuttings, take one for me, lol. Dee, is Kartuz in California?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Dee, don't forget to save some cestrum for me. cestrums are the only thing left on my wish list, elizabeth hedychium, maybe a couple of brugs.

Cala,
Kartuz is about 45 minutes from San Diego.

Dee,
I did the same thing a few years ago except then you could carry all that on the plane....I looked like "Have plants will travel". LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hope the plants don't get too cold up there in the sky. Hope you are carrying them on.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Nope Shirley, they were in the luggage compartment. They are all doing fine. Couldn't get much done today, all it did was rain. Got a 50% chance tomorrow, not complaining about the rain mind you, just wish it would let me get the stuff planted first.

My DD lives in Rancho Santa Margarita which is in Orange County just outside LA. It took about 45 minutes to get there from her house. Gloria it didn't seem to be that much further to San Diego. We went to SeaWorld and it wasn't to much further on from there. Maybe I should take a picture of this box that traveled home. tiG and PJ can attest to how big it was. Just got a little carried away with all the flowers and so much was in bloom.

Arlene, which cestrum's did you want. I can start you one of every color that I have. The only one not big enough is the new one and the white one that I have. Let me know.

Dee, Purple and Pink. You are one traveling woman!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

What is a cestrum? Never heard of it up here in the Iowa sticks. Does it have a common name?

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Hey Shirley,

They are very pretty I think. In some places they can be invasive, but I don't think you would have to worry about that. I will start you one so you can see if you like it. It will be the red or the yellow since they are the biggest your choice or both if you wish. Here is a link for you. I think it has the best pictures that I have found so far.

Dee, I'm partial to reds, but have lots of yellow around here too. Your choice. They are both pretty and if they smell good that is the best part. Thanks a bunch.

Dee...sounds like you had fun...when I'm in san Diego I spend 3-4 hours a day at the nurseries all over southern Calif. Vista is loaded with them ,so is Encinitas area as well as SD. So many specialty nurseries.

These look and sound wonderful. I can see how a person could become a collector of these if the fragrance is like a paperwhite. I plant paperwhites every winter and really love the fragrance.
