"Spring Bloom"??

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

Okay fellow ponders..question: Is the Spring Bloom only green water? When I got home from work yesterday I had a green "scum" on about 50% of the water surface. Is that "good bacteria" that I scooped off? Underneath the water was fairly clear. I pulled my pumps/filters and cleaned the top filter but not the "bio" part. They were extremely yucky but no bad smell. Also I'm wondering if the AlgaeFix stuff will help? Any thoughts? Tks!! "T" :)

if you scooped it off, it might have been pollen. Green water is another thing, it's algae and you can't scoop it off. String algae will wrap around your plants, but you can scoop it out. it won't only be on the top, and won't show up in one day.
Algaefix is a preventative as well as a cure for algae, it can't hurt.

This "green stuff" was almost foamy. And I have been fighting with string but this was not stringy at all. And here's something too,,my lilies won't grow. I've got 2 feeding tablets in the pots but they won't grow. All my other plants are growing but not the lilies. I can battle that problem but the green foamy stuff that floats is yucky. So you think the AlgaeFix will help? Does it kill ALL algae or just string. Also does the AlgaeFix hurt snails? I understand it's okay for fish and plants..or am I completely loosing my mind here. (I don't have much mind to loose..lol) "T" :)

my snails are doing fine. I can't think of what the foamy stuff is, hopefully someone will come with an answer. the algaefix cures the pea soup algae as well as the string.
don't loose your mind, it will clear up, and hopefully someone will know if it's a real problem or not.
as for your lilies. the pot needs to be wide, deep isn't too important. when you planted them, did you put the cut side of tuber next to edge of pot? (that's right) did you cover the crown? they will not bloom if you cover the crown.

I get the green foamy stuff, ugly, but just algae.
