Agapanthus

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Does anyone have a picture of this flower bulb - or - can anyone describe it to me? I have recently acquired a bunch of bulbs that are larger than any I've seen before and someone suggested that they may be agapanthus. They look like large daff bulbs to me. :)

Hi, I love agapanthus. I've got a page on my website about them. The bulbs are not really large single types like amaryllis. They are more a collection of smaller bulbs.

Once you enter the site, click on Flowers (upper left) and then on agapanthus. I've got one this year that has a 52 inch stalk!! I had ordered the cobalt blue ones from one of the catalogs and last year they were gorgeous. However, they've reverted back to being lighter flowers this year. Don't know if they are like hydrangea and need something special to keep the cobalt blue color or not. I do a lot of reading up on them trying to find answers.

I have this recipe -- it will feed a clump of three agapanthus --

1/2 c epsom salts
1/2 c bone meal
1/2 c blood meal
3 T super phosphate
3 T bulb food
