Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Moudry' - June 2002. Look how much is flowing over onto the ground. This is an aggressive plant and self seeds well.
Common name: Fountain Grass
Family: Poaceae
Genus: Pennisetum
Species alopecuroides
I hope you are still around DG....do you know the name of the pine in the background? Also...how is the black fountain grass doing? I want some!
Still here. The pine to the right/rear is a mugo pine - like a shrub.
The fountain grass grows like a weed and IS a weed if you let it seed itself too much :)
OK, now it's 2011. Are you still around? How is the Moudry doing? How old was it in these photos? I just planted my first one, and hope it likes it here. Any current photos? Thanks.
Still around. Although, the fountain grass is not. Well, sort of. I decided to remove it because it self-seeds like crazy and it's VERY difficult to uproot this guy once he gets going. I had too many babies growing in the beds. Now it has found its way out into the lawn and field. It's a tough one. I think the photo there was a plant maybe 4 years old or so? It grows pretty fast and in my area is very hardy/tough. I much prefer prairie dropseed grass instead of this fountain grass. It's much easier to manage and very pretty.
