This is the third bloom that has bloomed off of two plants. A little blue but not much. I do like the leaves and the bloom. The bloom yesterday only lasted one night.
ANOTHER MISSOURI MARBLE
the heat is murder on my blooms also
if in a pot move it to a more shady plance and spray it with water several times a day to help keep the bloom
Larry
I was looking forward to those light blue blooms. I might be in trouble here because mine are in the ground and in full sun. Oh well, another mistake.....lesson learned.
Brugie I have mine in the ground now also. The first one bloomed in a pot. They did well in the pots however. I made a bed with three of these and about eight nightii datura and 1 purple. On the outer edge of the bed I placed 8 Blue balloon flowers in between the daturas. I think if I can get them to bloom in will be an eye catcher. Oh yeah, in the very middle I have a white brugmansia that I am trying to get to grow tall. Wish me luck.
Larry I haven't tried that before but they are all in the ground now anyway. Thanks for the suggestion.
White??? Suppose to have light blue?
GRC, it sounds like from your description of the bed, that you will have an awesome display. Good luck with it. Are you going to take cuttings from your Missouri Marble for next year or will they come back for you from the roots?
Brugie, I will be saving the seed pods. And I probable will pot them back up this fall and keep them in protected area. I might leave one out to see if it comes back. I think I will also spread some seeds this fall and see if they come up next spring. The regular datura does come back for me.
REDROSE It does have a slight blue cast to it. Not as much as I would like and not as much as the picture when we ordered them. I would keep them just for the scent. A heavenly lemon scent and you sure can tell when a bloom opens. The first bloom I wasn't expecting it to open and would have missed it except for the smell. I was redoing a bed close by and got this wonderful aroma and went to see what it was and it was the datura in bloom.
I asked about cuttings because I seem to remember someone saying that this plant won't come back with the variegation from seed. I think I'll try to keep some cuttings or maybe the root stalk at the very least. Would hate to have to keep buying these every year.
Thanks for the information Brugie. I haven't hear that but I will make sure I have some that I will bring in this fall.
The leaves are really nice and it wouldn't be the same without them.
