Partly open bloom. Now crossed to Dr.Seuss.The BF pollen used on Becca Lynn and Seuss.
Butterfly
The bloom is as big as the plant isn't it? Beautiful too.
Yes.The bloom is propped, with a stick, for the photo. When hanging,it touches the ground.I had hoped for better leaf detail but maybe Tig can see these ok.The leaves are very distinctive and are not at all pubescent.
yep, got one of these, thanks a bunch. we miss you, must be great gardening weather!!!
Beautiful bloom.
JT, a beauty! it's become one of my favorites, the next cuttings are for me to have more! i can't count higher than 10, think i have 15-20 buds, the plant is growing well and i love it. think i'll use BF on everything! how was the pollen?
JT,
Pretty. I will be glad when mine blooms so I can have the pollen for future use.
The pollen was scarce on this one.I did not have my glasses on so I am hoping it was the same color as the cotton swab I was using.I couldn't see any pollen and usually I can see a bit of cream, against the white of the cotton, even without the glasses.
JT,
Do you have better luck with pollinating using a Q-tip or artist brush?
that is a lovely bloom
JT, try an artist's brush, the pollen is easier to see, lol. Plus one doesn't have to get so close to put the pollen on the stigma and it's far enough away I can still see it, lol. I think my arms are getting shorter as I get older.
Gloria,I usually use a Q-tip.I have not tried the brush but do sometimes use a piece of Mullien leaf.It works best of all.Easy to see the pollen against the light green and the fuzz holds the pollen well.I will see if I can sneak one of Ann's brushes and try that next time.
Cala I need longer arms too.
JT,
What's a Mullien?
Watch out Glory, you will get hooked on another flower...I even like the wild ones.
S,
They are kinda pretty. LOL
(sigh), i let pretty wildflowers grow up with my other stuff.
Arlene,
Me too. I have this Black eyed Susan looking thing that get about 7 feet tall growing in my wooded area...very nice in the fall.
Gloria,Mullien is an herb that we grow just for the large fuzzy leaves. It does have a tall, yellow column of blooms in the second year.I will try to get a pic tomorrow and post on the picture forum along with Disco Belle hibiscus that is also blooming now. That is one flower that doesn't have to take a back seat to the brugs!
