I bought new pots for my brugs today, but now I'm wondering if I got ones that are too big? Do they hate being jumped into a huge pot? I wanted to get them in a big pot so I can bring them in for the winter if they wouldn't mind that.
Is this going to be okay, or should I put them in a medium sized pot first?
I thought my brugs were bigger than they are
I've stuck mine into big pots. They grow faster when you do. It would be the same difference as planting in the ground.
Thanks, I'm off to repot them now. I just wanted to be sure they wouldn't object to it first. I've never grown brugs before, and they still kinda intimidate me. I want them to live so bad!!!!
Joan, they are hard to kill but you do need three hands to grow them well. One hand to hold the water hose, one to sprinkle fertilizer and one to dust with insecticide.
I've already figured it out about the water and fertilizer, but tell me about the insecticide? What do I need to be ready for with brugs. I haven't experienced an insect problem yet, but they've also been mostly under the growlights so far.
I found another thing I needed to grow these successfully in this zone. A forklift to drag them in and out! Them pots are heavy when they are full of soil! LOL
It looks like they are on the kitchen floor - hopefully the weather is almost good enough to put them outside? Which ones are they?
Yep, they are on the kitchen floor, and I repotted them there. Right now they can go outside during the day at least, but I might have to bring them inside in the evenings if it gets chilly. How much cold can they take? I need to harden them off now too before I leave them out.
They are Charles Grimaldi, Ollie, and Jessie Noel. All from Gloria. The Charles Grimaldi and Jessie Noel were cuttings, but Ollie was from seed. He's the only seed I got to germinate for me. So far none of the others have showed their little leaves to me yet.
Do Brugs need a dormant period or can I just bring them in for houseplants next winter? Once we get into the new house, I'll have a big glass sliding door for them to live in front of.
Joan,
Bad news Charles G. is really Dr.Suess...this was decided while I was in Australia...just change the name on your tag...sorry.
No problem Gloria, I've always loved Dr. Suess anyway and I have no idea who Charles Grimaldi is. LOL! I love these plants no matter what their name is. I'll change the tag. Thanks for letting me know.
Joan,I fight spider mites, all kinds of caterpillars and now some little brown cat that's eating holes in the flowers. It
seems to destroy the anthers and stigma.
Funny thing is....I have always gardened organically and had never seen a spider mite until I got some brugs.
This spray works well for the mites.
To one pint boiling water add approximately 2 ounces of shaved soap.I use "Octagon".Allow to cool and add 2 T. garlic juice,1 T. Tea tree oil and 1 T.peppermint oil.
Add one half of this to 2 approximately 2 gallons of water
and spray once a week for a month. This got rid of the mites for me.I have not seen any for a while now.
Every thing else I tried either did not work or caused serious leaf damage.
