Yes, that's a Y and I believe I can see some tiny buds in your picture. Take a close look and I think you will see some little buds. :)

I think I can see some too.

Sure looks like a Y to me - it has a very distinctive look.

I always assumed that when I heard all the talk about the "Y" that it meant that the plant actually branched off and made a Y....Am I looking in the wrong place for my Y?? Please tell!! I am heading out the door to look at mine now! Just to see what I have....er don't have LOL

Molly the y is where 2 branches come off of the stalk in opposite direction. I have been looking from a side view and Bobbie pointed out that if you look from the top you can see two sets of leaves that look the same goin in different directions. That girl is so smart.

Gottcha! I just looked at mine and I am sorry to say mine don't look like that :( But I do have faith that it will be looking that way soon!!

The Y looks like twin branches - happening at the same time - they also look alike. See above - Georgiaredclay's picture. If you get just one happening - it's a side shoot.

Does a brug not bloom if it doesn't y? Or is it just more blooms? Been meaning to ask this question, but hated to show my ignorance. The one brug I started with last year was beautiful. Bloomed til frost. Now I'm wondering if I should cut off some of the growth on it this year. It is huge and shoots came up all around the base root. I did prune back all of last year's dead growth. BUT, I have not seen any sign of buds. Now that I know what a y really is, I'll check it today to see if it's doing it, but I kinda don't think it is.

I need help fast. One of my Brugs. is wilted on one side. I noticed last week that what usually looked like a very healthy plant had started wilting with the heat (our first heat wave of the summer). In the morningsit would perk up and look fine. Now the one side of the Y is
staying wilted and fills soft half way down the branch. I am wondering if I should cut it below that area. I am making sure I don't over water it now. It gets sun until about 3 p.m. and gets the hot late afternoons in shade.
