CLOSED: Wanted -Blood Lily will trade hybrid daylilies
Hi,
Wondering if you have received one. You have mail.
Are you talking about the Oxblood Lily the one also called Schoolhouse lily?
Dayflower, please do let us know if you have found any. I have bunches and would be glad to trade some to you!
Wingnut, even if you don't hear from Dayflower, I would love to trade for one of these. I looked it up, and is it the one from Van Burgundeon?
Kathy
They are the Oxblood Lilies, aka Schoolhouse Lilies or Surprise Lilies, Rhodophiala bifida. I don't know exactly where these came from originally, Lupine. They are progeny of ones my grandmother planted back in the '50s and they've naturalized all over the yard. I looked on the Van Burgundeon site and didn't find them. They aren't these: http://www.dutchbulbs.com/spring/z31219.70235.html
I'm blushing a little now as I didn't even know there was a plain "Blood" Lily, so when I saw the subject line, I thought for sure she was talking about mine! *goofy grin*
No, don't be embarrassed! I do that kind of thing often! A plant I only know by its common name is completely different all over the country.
I would love some of the surprise lily if you want to trade. Believe it or not, they are almost completely unavailable here; once in a great while one of the more disreputable catalog nurseries will offer a bulb for $3 or $4, and they almost always arrive shriveled, dead. I understand they can be grown in pots up here, like amaryllis. I have finally learned how to do those! I can even get them to bloom for Christmas! The ones I have are about 10 years old; simply beautiful.
Kathy, lupinelover, I would love it if you would email me and tell me how you get your amaryllis to bloom again. I have one in the office that a new employee brought in for me to minister to. She's had it for many years and only gets 3 or 4 leaves every spring. I really don't know what to do with it.
Okey, dokey! I'll have to go see if I can even find where they are right now. They're dormant in summer here, so I'll just look for the old foliage laid over. I'll e-mail ya'. And, yeah, I'd like to know how to get an amaryllis to bloom, too! :)
Tell you what: I will post directions in a new thread in Bulbs. OK? See ya there!
by the way, anyone ever hear back from Dayflower?
