Glory, wonder which one I have? What is the one with the crumpled up bloom inside called?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Glory, your species differs much from the one in Hyperlink. It is not the same plant. The corolla tips of your species are much longer and more narrow. The plant in the Hyperlink has shorter and broader tips.

Do all flowers of your species have that much space between the two skirts?

Hi everyone! I am new to this site though I have been reading all your posts all week and have already learned alot! I was wondering Calalily, is the candida species (which I find by the way is an odd name for a lovely flower as it is a fungus that can cause infection) a double white? Do you have a picture in flower of the little baby you sent to me with this name? Thanks Kelley

I posted a photo, it's titled "My Species".

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

the skirt on my candida white doesn't seem to come out at all but stay's inside the outer flower

Monika,
Here is a picture of another flower that was on the same plant of mine....looks a little different doesn't it?

Hi Kelley,

Glad to see you are finally here with us. Welcome from Iowa!! Later.......S

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I just got back from being out of town and saw this discussion on candida double whites. I did not know that there were so many of them. I have one from Glory and one from Cala now I am anxious for both to bloom to see exactly white I have. I think they were both labeled as candida double and not species but I am not for sure but I will check my labels tomorrow. I was hoping that they were different than the older double candida that I have that has the second part stuffed into the first part. I ordered a Species from NH in February but have not received it. Hopefully, it won't be much longer.

Frannie,
Hope you had a nice trip.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can tell that I don't have Species now. I must have all Candida's.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Brugie, How can you tell that all yours are candidas? Do all your plants look exactly alike? I am going to check mine first thing in the morning.

Glory, Yes, I had a fun-filled family reunion. Went to the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence TX. I found a lavender crinum and bought it. I like things that come back year after year. It was so hot 95+) that we only spent about 30 minutes there. Did not get to look at all their heirloom plants. Plan to go back in the fall.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Glory, it looks very like B. x candida Knightii. But these early doubles are hard to identify. A chance would be, to trace it all the way back from where it originated.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Frannie, they all have very velvety leaves. That is the only thing I can go by now since they are still small. Also the fact that Arlene said that what she sent is a double white Candida, and that the one Eric sent that was probably Species is not, and the one I got from Snow is also a Candida double white. So, I'm going to have plenty of them. I would like to have Species as well, but this summer, things are already filled up here. Will have to wait for fall to trade and share........ :-)

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I have a Logees Species which has completely different leaves from the candida Dbl. White. I'll be happy to share it in the fall when it is big. It's budding now and as soon as it flowers I will post a picture. Also have a c. dbl white with buds so I can compare the flowers when they open.

Snow,
Please do take pictures.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

mine looks just like the candida double on the lbj site guess that what I have??? well thats what I thought I had some times you just get lucky....lol

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I checked and the one I got from Cala said Species. The leaves are not the same as the candida that I received from Gloria or the older plant that I have that is a double. The plant from Cala does not have velvety leaves but they are different from other brugs. They do feel softer on top but they are not fuzzy although the new leaves do have a little fuzz. I guess we will all have to wait and see our blooms to know for sure and even then there could be more questions. It does keep things interesting!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I had several "double" brugs from different sources. I asked Eric if his "Double White" was species and he thought it was, so they all got tagged "Species" Now I notice that they are different leaves. We will see when they bloom.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Frannie, i've found that when in full sun the leaves are not as velvet, one i have that was, has been planted in full sun now for 2 months, sun up til 5-6 o'clock, just isn't anymore. waiting for it to bloom, still hoping i have a candida pink somewhere.

Arlene,
You are so right ....I wonder why the leaves tend to be less fuzzy when in the sun? Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

OK, I guess I will just have to wait and see. The one with less fuzzy leaves did get more sun. Nevertheless, I am so thankful for what I have and I am still excited about seeing them all bloom. I have many different ones that have lots of buds.

Rose Hill, NC(Zone 8a)

it looks like my Hawaiian Double
it's first and second skirt are normally at least 6" apart and a very fast grower

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Can you post a picture of the Hawaiian Double, Larry. We would all like to see it, I'm sure. Sounds gorgeous.

Burgie,
Think I'm just going to call it "White with two skirts". LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

and call the one we all have "stuffed white"

Arlene,
That's cool...I like that name too. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Now those are a couple of good names!! I'll have to remember those when it is time to put names on mine. They can be AKA's can't they? :-)
