We really need to get some plants identified before we get mired in a bog of unknown plants. So many names for the same plants.I just had a person in Calif want to do some trading with what he said was CG..turns out its Dr S.his buddy bought it from a grower as CG..its not.Too many teeth on it..so there you have it.We need to get things identified.IF you aren't REALLY positive as to identity of a brug and someone wants a piece just say unknown as the name till it can be identified...will make for less confusion. PLEASE...nobody take this as an afront to your abilities..thats not what I'm saying..if you have inadvertently sent someone the wrong plant...don't sweat it!
Just be honest and all will be alright.Lets make it our goal this summer to get everyones brugs labeled as best we can. INCLUDING me!!!LOL :-)
I can see our work is cut out for us.....
When in doubt I post a picture and hope one of the experts can identify.I think we've got the CG and DrS figured out. Now it's the dbl. white/ Species that is in question, but we'll get that one figured out too I'm sure.Such a shame that so many different names are put on the same plant.Just causes total confusion.
Snow..whgen I was collecting hot chile pepper seeds..I had the same trouble....out of 320 kinds...when I grew them out..I found about 25 % were the same cultivars..only they had different names they had picked up some where along the way.
Kyle, we had a member, which traded pink flowering Bugs with 12 other ladies. Each had another name a n d given a different description. When the trade was finished, our member had traded her Rosa Traum for 12 other Rosa Traums.
Monika...I can relate to that......sounds familiar.Rosa traumm and frosty pink...what a dilemma.....we may never accomplish our goal. But we can have fun trying.... :-)
PS.... I still want Kascade....LOL
Hybridizing and of cause enjoying is one of my primary reasons for making my Brug collection as large as possible. I have sometimes joked with another collector about making a Brug museum lol That is, to collect both the new ones, BUT also every old one (both good and bads qiality). My other reason is, that as large as possible collection enable me to identify correctly. An example is the problem of Isabella/Golfito. Some are positive, that its the same plant, some that they are different, but very similar plants. Since its a suaveolens species/ hybrid its not selfcompatible, so a way to solve this is to cross. If they can have offspring, they are different plants and this should be respected, but if no offspring come out of it, they are identical. I have a verified Golfito cutting (ther collector got it directly from Don Martinson), but to make the experiment foolproff I still need a verified cutting of Isabella. The last part is the hard one, because after some began to assume, that Golfito was Isabella, several different plants goes under the name Isabella ... If any have a verified cut of Isabella I will be very happy to grow it lol in the name of getting Brugs names right of cause lol
... and to enjoy also lol

I also have a very kind Lady in my mail box, thatr have a viable cross called "Orange" (CG x Junters Orange). Is has often been stated, that JO and CG is the same plant. The question here is, was the CG in the cross really CG and the JO really the JO? Anyone having any experience crossing these lol

Tonny I think you just solved some of our problems..when in doubt do a cross between the suspected like hybrids..no seeds...no new variety...IT MIGHT REALLY work!!Great idea.
:-)
I agree, and that's why I can't trade out the double whites I have until they bloom and y'all identify them for me. Been in the midst of the Isabella/FP/I. Pink and it's almost funny if it weren't a little serious:)
Earl does mail fast, but i think the person who sent me charles grimaldi that turned out to be dr suess got it from earl, my jamacian yellow i bought from ear turned out to be dr suess, and my JO that i got from KHT turned out to be exactly like my "versicolor yellow" and both of those turned out to be dr suess. of course, i think those are all really DrS as they are just like the DrS i bought from earl.
Kyle, it does work! It is the only way to identify plants. One of them has to be the correct species. I had my CG from Logees. CG are also named Jütner Orange, San Franzisko, versicolor Apricot and offered under these names from sellers. But it will not work, if the sellers are not willing to change the wrong names of correct identified hybrids.
LOL!! arlene, I stand corrected! maybe we can also put in known factors in the database. serrated leaves, etc.
I just got a rooted cutting from Don Martinson of his Golfito. Snow sent me an Isabella, and it is my objective to cross these two plants to see if they can develop a seed pod. However, again it is the Isabella thing. Will it be Isabella or another Golfito. Don told me that he is 99% sure that they are not the same plant but couldn't say he is positive yet. Yep, it's going to be an interesting summer and fall.
I have a Golfito's with small buds on it and when they bloom I too will try the propergation of Golfito and Isabella...Who knows maybe we'll end up with a Golfbella. :0)
I too, have a Golfito from Don Martinson, have Isabella, leaves darker and look completely different(at this time).
I got CG from Brugie(she told me later, she found out it was Dr. S.) Two other people, including Karma, said theirs' was really a CG, both of those look just like Brugie's who stated hers' was DS?????)
Am I ever mixed up on CG!!
I agree we should do somthing I kind of believe that we have a lot of multi hybrids. If a cg is crossed with some other brug and the flower looks like a cg it my not have cg leaves so in my opinion that its not a cg but a cg cross
Golfbella sounds like an interesting name. You sent me a Golfito X ? Do you have any idea what the ? is?
S.
No, I have no idea what the ? on the Golifito.
I can not be of much help here either, before mine has bloomed. I got several golfito x unknown parents. All have suaveolens style leaves (elongated eggshaped to elliptic and glabrous. I also have several Betty Marshall x unknown parents. Here some have glabrous suaveolens leaves, some very pubescent and some in between with serrated margins lol I am looking very much forward to see, what blooms they will be :-) Some are about 6 inches high with 16 inch leaves and ready to go in the ground for the summer. Others are smaller and will need to be repotted before planted. I move all out of the GH today incl. Liz sanguinea cross (that grow immensely good and fast).
