I've never heard this common name for this plant. In the UK we call it 'Guelder Rose'.
Cranberry is something totally different - Vaccinium!
i realise you weren't the one to call it this, but when i tried to put in an alternative common name this wasn't possible - think i'll ask Dave if we can do that.

The name on the tag that came with the plant actually said "Dwarf Cranberry Bush"...go figure.

!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they are edible, but not even related to true cranberry, which is a member of the Ericaceae, and needs acid soil. Viburnum opulus enjoys the chalk downland(alkaline) all around where i live. and although there is a variety 'compactus' i don't think there's much dwarf about even that, certainly not in comparison to a cranberry bush!
We can only wonder who takes it upon themselves to dream up these names
