Pink-flowering Dogwood
Cornus florida var. rubra
This is Cornus Florida variety Rubra. Grown in filtered high shade the branches reach approximately 14-16 feet high. The bracts are exceptionally large hence the plant may be a sport of the species and variety.
The blloms on this tree are beautiful. May I ask several questions? Will this tree do well in an slightly unprotected area subject to occasional winds. Also, is 7 hours of sunlight too much for this species?
Tatoo1, I have grown Cornus florida Cherokee Sunset for about 10 years. I had planted it at my other place a couple of years before i moved and couldn't bear to leave it moved it here. It is growing out in full sun and gets quite a bit of wind. Sulked for a couple of years after being moved at about 6 ft in height. But now looks lovely, is about 8 feet, has lovely red shaded leaves and deeper pink flowers. Donna
