Pond Puttering Proceeds...Chiminea

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I thought I'd try putting the chiminea at the head of the pond as an accent. I like how tied in with the terra cotta fountain in the water. We'll never use it to build a fire in, anyway, so now I have a focal point, plus the iron base is just the right size for a large shallow pot I already had! :)

There are two clumps of a very tall ornamental grass behind it (they're just not tall yet, LOL), plus the variegated willow you can partly see now will get larger. I can't wait to see what it looks like here in September or so.

We might put some candles in here so they glow at night, or we could plant something which would trail out of its mouth. We're not sure what we want to do with it yet! I'd thought about making a water feature out of it, but we like having the fountain right now.

ruby42! hows your pond??!!!
gardenwife, that looks so nice. Love those lil nancy things in the corner. I didn;t realize they bloomed. They need shade right? I am still thinking of your mothers pond and how she did the back bog part of hers. I want to do that.

GW, it would look better in my pond.

Naaaah, Susie. ;) LOL! The pond's doing better, but we need to get some oxygenator plants soon; the one local greenhouse was out of them yesterday. The water lily is sending up more leaves, and the one taller plant you gave me last summer, Susie, has two shoots coming up now. I always forget what that's called - the one with the palm-tree looking leaves?

Actually, Mings, the bog part isn't really a bog; there's two pre-formed ponds there, each in its own level of raised bed. They just have compost and topsoil, etc. in both, surrounding the ponds.

I know! Thats what mine is. But. thats what they called a bog pond. Its a kit. 2 shells. From Sam;s club. I was just telling DH yesterday I want to do that. I got that eye rolling thing.

:( Howie doesn't either. We always work out in the yard over the weekend, and just when we're ready to just sit down and relax and ENJOY it, he has to go back to work.

We put a candle inside the chiminea tonight and it looked really cool -- a glowing cave sort of, and it reflected in the pond ripples. :)

Sorry we've missed each other, Pangie - you'd have been welcome to come by last night, but I didn't get your message until 9pm. :( Waaaah!

I now return you to your worldwide web thread. ;)

LOL! Today, I was talking to Howie and wanted to make a point about something. I prefaced it by saying, "Now, before you roll your eyes, listen to me..." LOL

He rolled them, but jokingly. He can't immitate THE eye roll, though; it's unconscious and has its own unique style!
