salvia farinacea, anyone?

Howdy folks.
An old friend approached me Saturday wanting an "old-time salvia". She knew she wanted salvia farinacea but noted that so many of todays varieties/cultivars are not to her liking. She says this should be the "real" one and should not have a name (as in "Victoria" or "Strata"). Also she mentioned that what she is looking for is not a low-growth plant but tends to grow 3 feet high or more.

Anyone out there have any info about this? And perhaps can steer me to a source for this particular salvia?
Many thanks!

Oh gosh Shoe!! Speak of the devil!!! :-) I saw the plant this very morning in a park near our church - about 3-4 feet high and a lovely deep, rosy pink. It was there last year too and I wondered about it's hardiness. I thought that the protection of the city dwellings surely helped it through the winter months!! Maybe I can collect seed heads! What do you think?

Holy guacomole!!! I declare! I'd say jump on it! Get us both some! By the way, was it the foliage that was rosy pink? Or was it flowering? Reason I ask is I thought my friend said it had the blue-ish lavender flowers (but don't trust my memory, it's been out of commission from time to time).
Another by the way...whatcha doing online? Ain't you sposed to be fixing supper for Carol7 by now!?

lol Shoe - that was yesterday and we barbecued. It was a good day and the weather was kind to us. Thanks for the book, it was a lovely surprise!! If I don't forget, there will be something in the mail for you too!! The salvia I saw was Greggii - old fashioned sage. Link:-
