Whiskers opened this evening. I was cleaning up around the brugs and smelled a wonderful fragrance. I didn't realize how fragrant Whiskers was. I think it rivals CG for fragrance. Eight blooms opened tonight, there are lots more buds to open.
Just Opened today
I've never seen Whiskers in person yet, but from your pictures I have a feeling it will be a favorite. Thanks so much for sending me one. It is growing nicely and loves being outside in the sun. Another I can't wait to see......but will have to. :-(
SSSOOOOOO pretty.
Cala....don't you just love it's fragrance....the Aureas and Aurea Hybridshave the strongest and nicest fragrance. I just replanted Mother Whiskers today....took it out of a 20 gallon pot and put it in the ground.
Cala it is beautiful.
Gloria, how in the world did you do that? I had some in 8 gal. pots that just about killed me to get the hole dug, the brug trimmed and then planted. Our ground is so dense here. Just black dirt. I've ammended it a lot with sand, leaves, grass clippings, just about anything that comes out of the kitchen, and I do the lime and other stuff and it is still so solid. I added lots of peat and composted manure to the dirt where I planted the brugs, so I hope I can get them out of the ground this fall. If not, the guy who plows my garden will just have to turn them over.
I planted a banana tree that was in a 20 gallon pot. It was so heavy!! But at least the soil was easy to dig.
I don't think I could possibly do it anymore, but I'm a lot older than you are......I'm still waiting on my cold hardy banana plant to arrive. Merry Gardens..........know anything about them? I thought I read that they were associated with the people from Logees. Guess I'd better start writing emails again....... :-)
DS helps me when i get pots that big, brugs with a bunch of roots get really heavy.
Cala, It's beautiful!!!
I just put a dr,seuss that I am brading in a 25 gal pot boy did that hurt the back to move
I know, that Whiskers is going to one of my clear favorites. The shape is very unique and close to my golden aurea lol I will use this one both for hybridizing (imagine whiskers shape and color on a long narrow corolla tube a la Abutillons versicolor "Angels Tears" or Whiskers shape even broader via a suaveolens hybrid :-) and as is to enjoy fully :-)
I crossed this one to Ecuador Pink, imagine this shape in pink!!
Beautiful... not have in my collect.. I am going to get me one someday! :)
Did I tell y'all I had to drag the pot to the spot where I wanted to plant Whiskers then I like to have never got it out of the pot...Ron was not here at the time so it was just me and the dog. I too am getting to old to do such things.
Cala,
E.Pink and Whiskers would be beautiful.
They are beautiful. I like these yellow orange aurea like flowers with long corolla tips. But even more the fragrance. I cannot get enough of it!
I have some twin(I hope) seedlings of this plant..came from the same overseas source a few years back...never has bloomed yet..gets huge and big leaves..this year, its bloom or die!!LOL
Tonny
Yes, I have seed pods!! I pollinated about a month ago, when it had blooms the same time as EP. I've got EP with buds now and also some frozen pollen.I think I posted a photo of the pods a while back.http://davesgarden.com/showthread/254767.html
Eclipse, do you mean vicky was the intermediary of the seeds and not the actual hybridizer? maybe you should send one to florida, they like my sand down here..........lol
