Hello I am looking for a type of onion. Not sure of the name we always called it spreader Onions I know some people call them scalions they are a bulb that when planted each bulb will produce about 10 onions if they are left in the ground each onion will produce a bulb for the following year. Has anybody else ever had these??? We just realized we forgot to put ours in the basement last fall and they are no good now I have checked with our local greenhouses and the few that did know what I was talking about said they haddent seen them for years. Thanks Dan
Looking for Onions????
Hi frog, this may or may not help, but I seen a thread I think for a plant trade, where someone had these (at least it sounds like these). It has been probably 2-3 weeks ago. If I find the thread I will post it here. Julie
Aren't those called potato onions?
Potatoe Onions are a little different but along the same line. The onions I am looking for get no bigger than a pinky about ten per bulb and if you leave the bulb in the ground till fall then dig them each onion is a bulb that you can save for the following year...Dan
I believe I have what you are looking for. We call them multiplying onions. They will form into 6 to 10 ulbs each. You can pull them all at once and use the bigger ones and dry the other for replanting. Here in the south we usually pull a bunch and immediately replant the smaller ones. Either one works. Send me a sase or postage and I will send you some. I will email you my address now.
