Would you be able to tell us the environment it likes, soil conditions & where to find them?

Sassy

I don't trade orchids, I can't think of anything I'd trade them for and I don't want to get into trouble with CITES!

Thank you Iowagal! This is one of my favourite Dactylorhizas.

I almost always do a small write up on the individual Plants Database page, please let me know if you feel I've left somthing out :) I don't know where you would find them, I only got them by chance in this country, they are rarely sold here.

Most Dactylorhiza species like a constantly moist but well drained soil in full sun, D. elata is not necessarily fully hardy here in Hampshire and we have a mild winter. It's a Mediterranean orchid and as such prefers that kind of climate and a drier winter than our garden can offer it (we grow them in a pot).

If you don't grow Dactylorhiza or (at a push) any terrestrial orchid, you will need to buy established plants in a pot with soil. (Please make sure they are not wild collected and come from a reputable nursery). The reason being is that you will need the soil which should contain the relevant fungi the orchid lives with.

I hope that helps answer your question :)

FINE!
