He loves to peek out from under the waterlily leaves. These are "croakers" and can be quite noisy in the evenings, but I still love them.
Wood Frog
Oh how cool that you were able to catch a picture of him. I like frogs too. Aren't they just too neat :)
calalily..what kind of pool is that? tell me more..looks shallow. any fish in it?how big is it?
It's a pre-formed pond. 2 feet deep, 6 feet long, holds 150 gallons of water. Here my fish and water lilies overwinter just fine in it. The hardest part was leveling it. It took 900 lbs of sand. DH dug it as deep as he could and I used potting soil and rocks to build up around the edges.
Wow ! now that is a nice pond. I'm still wishful thinking.gonna try doing a very small pond ,may be too shallow but I'm going to try any way'may only be good for water plants but may get a frog or two.will also water the birds and butterflies.
I have a bog garden made out of a wading pool. It has lots of frogs in it too. Especially the little leopard frogs.
bog garden out of wading pool? do you have a picture or more info. sounds pretty neat.
MWSB, I took a wading pool, the medium sised one and put flat rocks across the center of it to divide it in half. I then dumped a bale of peat moss into one side. (wet the peat moss first while it's still in the bag with warm water) I then added water to the other side. I drilled holes about half way up the side of the pool on the side I put the water in so it wouldn't flood and make the peat float around. I planted LA iris, marsh marigolds, skunk cabbage and some sundews in the peat and put some floaters in the water. It's done great and I've had it for 2 years.
Cala, I wonder if this would work........what do you think?
If I put the plants into pots and then into the pond, then fill with water so that the pool really isn't filled with the peat but the pots are and them fill the pool with water, get some like fairy moss? I think that's what it's called that floats on the surface and then have some floaters like water hyacinth and other stuff that I can get. What do you think? Think that would work?
Flow
I think that's a great idea too. I have a bog garden in the Jungle House that I use for my sarracenias. I planted them in ceramic pots(with a hole in the bottom of course), filled the pots with peat and bark chips, planted the sarracenias and put the pots in a shallow tub filled with water. I put floaters on the top and added some duck weed. I used to have the Fairy Moss, but I think my fish eat it. They have been in this tub for about a year and the water isn't stagnant.
