This is the white astilbe. I love it. I keep getting it mixed up with "Fanal" which is a red one. These do great in dappled shade, but have grown the peach, pink and red ones in full sun. They do great as long as they get plenty of water.
Astilbe " Finale"
Oh that sure brightens up the shade garden, doesn't it? Wow. I need to go shopping. :)
Smilin, I love white in the shade. It does make it brighter.
Astilbe reminds me a great deal of our native goatsbeard, but the astilbe is more compact and the blooms showier. However, the goatsbeard gets pretty tall.. as much as five feet in an established plant. They don't mind the shade at all. I'll bet this white astilbe really stands out.
I have a couple of sad little astilbe, they are just curling up for lack of rain. Your's is so pretty & bright.
Azalea, give them a drink. It will do wonders for them.
I have moved most all of mine into the sun and they are finally growing great after three years. I think sometimes the catalogs are a bit off with their sun requirements.
Haighr, mine do good in the sun too, I just have to remember to give them extra water to compensate.
Susie, any chance you could share that picture here: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/72944/index.html (now that we finally have an entry for it?
Terry, I will have to see if I still have the picture, or if you can move it from one to the other, that would be okay.
