dog I hit

coming home from my sons three big dogs jumped out of brush on the bank right into my path. I was almost stopped but hit a large collie who went under my pickup truck. I did not run over him but caught him with the plastic under bumper which has a crack in it. I went back to see if he was dead and who might be his owner. A youn man came and picked him up-he was out but with no obvious injuries. He tried to get his head up as he moved him. He said he gets out and runs off This was a busy highway on a Sunday afternoon. He loaded the dog up tp go find a vet before I could get a name even (m I live 20 miles away) I am heartsick in fifty years of driving this is the first pet I have ever hit. I will never know if the dog was dazed or died and it will haunt me for a long time to come. I had my beautifil Benji type killed on the road one morning about 15 years ago and it hurt terribly but I idnt blame the young man who hit her. I opened the door and she went in a flash and died on the way to the vets. is there anything more I could have done?? Please pray for the collie and his yound man Shirley
