I have several nice ceramic containers that lack holes for drainage. Some of them I'll be able to insert a plastic pot inside. For the others... What can I grow for plants that like wet feet? I was thinking ... cala lilies, elephant ears, or maybe a golden sedge? Anything else that might like wet feet? How bout caladiums? No? Would coleus handle wet feet?
I also have a big whiskey barrel that I was used for watering but it leaks now. I was thinking maybe I'd plant cannas in it?
Containers w/ No drainage?
Poppysue - don't know if you'd want to do it, but I have several large ceramic containers that I drilled holes in. You have to go slow and just keep stopping so it wont's get too hot. Also, keep dripping water on the spot , helps to lubricate and keep it cool.
I am using a ceramic piece that has no drainage and is also shallow. I decided to plant it up and I keep it out of the rain and water it by misting it with a spray bottle...Hope it works!
Just put gravel or plastic peanuts in the bottom for drainage. I use an old crock for planting and that's what I do. Just remember to empty it out before freezing weather in the fall.
I find the best thing for drainage in this situation is pea gravel!!
