I have taken some woody cuttings, and started them horizonally. all are rooted really well, but there are only a couple of leaves on each, no stem yet. will they bloom this year? our growing season ends in late Sept, Oct.
woody cuttings
TiG, I got some woody cuttings last spring and some of them bloomed before fall.
I seem to have another problem with some of those tiny cuttings I took, they have "Y'd" and are only a few inches tall. Won't they look funny with a bloom bigger than the whole plant?
I'd rather that than have someone take one that doesn't bloom this year.
I think your plants will look kind of funny, Cala *lol* However, I don`t wanna tease you with them, because mine are going to bloom as very small plants too. I haven`t seen any buds on my versicolor yet, but ... *lol* ... imagine, - 20 inch flowers on a plant maybe 10-15 inches high by then. I think, that you got a pretty good result out of your experiment, - not only did the small babies survive, they are also already Yìng :-)
What kind are your cuttings?
I wish I'd spent more time this winter growing cuttings instead of starting seeds. could have started the seeds now.
TiG, I agree, but just think, our seedlings will bloom first!!
Tonny, the ones that are Y'ing early are Peaches and Cream and Jean Pasco. The Whiskers are growing straight and tall as are most of the others. Harenhauser Garten seems really slow to get any height. My versicolors(except for an old Ecuador Pink) aren't budded yet.
I'm thinking that at least my seedlings from C. Ursuline will bloom, they are getting very woody trunks. I have several from Eric that are getting fair size too.
tiG... did I get a c ursuline from you at the florida swap?? if I did is it going to be white???
Pete
I think you did. I have no idea what color, these are seeds from LBJ and the pollen donor was unknown.
Cala, HG seems to be a bit like culebra, slow to start but finally kicks in. my culebra froze back this winter, has grown 15-18 inches in the last 6 weeks. will have blooms soon. speaking of blooms........... i have buds on creamsickle, won't be but a couple of weeks.
Arlene, that is so cool.
Hi tiG and other brug nuts! I have a question since I never started dealing with bruggies until I got some cuttigs from tiG. They rooted fine last fall and did well through most of the winter. But early this spring, they started dropping leaves and looking sick. So I repotted them and they perked up. But within only a few weeks, they looked bad again and I knew they couldn't be root bound that soon. I finally planted them out, but they look pathetic, pale green and sad. Can you tell me what's wrong? How heavy of a feeder are they?
Very, woodspirit! the first thing i ever read was something like a double dose of miracle grow every other week. i use osmocote cause i'm lazy, use the kind you mix with water on any that look peek-ed and once in a while anyway. lots of people use lots of different kinds, don't think there is a wrong kind, just use lots! i ring them like you do tomatoes. they'll be spiffed up and growing in no time for you.
Cala, The Whiskers you sent with the bottle is 5in. high.It has Y'd and has tiny buds showing.Hard to believe as little as it is.What's your secret for getting them to Y so early???
Snow, your pack is on the way. hope there was something good in the bottle, i could use a stiff one about now.
LOL Arlene. Nothing you would want to drink. Hope you get your puter fixed soon and get back here.
