Hello everyone,
I bought myself a beautiful Jasmine sambac today, yehhhhh I wanted one for so long.
I really don't want to mess it up. How do I care the proper way for this plant?
it still has some buds that are not open yet. It sits in an ugly black plastic pot. the roots are peacking out on the side.
Can I leave it on a south window?
thanks
Jasmine Sambac help please
Hi,
I'm no expert with this plant, but have had one for about three years now. It is very healthy and grows fast. I keep it in an East window during the cold months and do fertilizer regularly. Have to keep it trimmed or it would be all over the place. It is in a clay pot, about 2 gallon size now. I did have one run in with spider mites this winter, but that is the only problem I've had with it. Now it is outside and our nights have gotten down to 40 degrees and it is doing fine. I would say that 11 of the 12 months of the year, it is in bloom. Kinda messy in the house too. It isn't the easiest plant to take cuttings from but I did have luck by smashing the cut end of the slip I took and just rooted it in water. Now, I think I would root in perlite and water that is in my lighted aquarium.
thanks Brugie,
I will put it on my east window for now. It's still way to cold here to put it outside :-(
Can I repot it now or should I wait?
I hope it gets big *LOL*
thanks a bunch.
I'd go ahead and repot it so it will be ready to go outside when it warms up.
thanks Brugie,
I will repot it.
Last evening, I plucked about 50-60 flowers to be adorned on my DW's head (it is a tradition here). The plant has grown almost without much attention, in my case - it is about 4 ft tall and shrubby. It is on the west, but it has a bit of shade, though it likes the sun. The book says that it must be fertilized at the time of bloom. But I haven't done anything like that. It doesn't even get regular water from my cans! I think it would do well in the ground.
Dinu,
wow that must look so nice on your DW. and I bet it smells lovely to.
I did repot it in a bigger pot and it does well. it's developing new buds :-)
thanks
