Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Will you be visiting those houses that Eclipse posted of the huge brug trees in the yard? and more importantly will you be taking cuttings? Don't embarass us by getting caught. lol....
Enjoy the west coast, I imagine it is quite a nice change weatherwise from Mississippi.

Aren't 3 year old grand daughter's wonderful. I have sleep over's with mine also. Enjoy her while you are there.

Make sure you get cuttings and don't get caught...LOL..if you do stand on the 5th Brugsmansia Amendment which is
"I just took a little piece for my grand daughter, she wanted a flower. I didn't know it was illegal..."

Hugs and have a wonderful time.

Gloria,

Know you will have a great time while visiting with the kids. We used to keep our first grandchild a lot. Once for six weeks while his mom was getting ready to move to Germany. What a blast. It was a lot more fun than when I had my own kids. Guess maybe because I had learned a lot by then. Anyway, just grab that little gal and bring her home for a vacation. She could really help grandma with the brugs and pollinating. :-) Seriously, have a ball. Talk to you later.......S

Glory..The first place is at the sw corner of Laurel st and Front st.Just west of Balboa park about 3 blocks or so. The other is on Lincoln st..between Florida st and Texas st. in North Park area.Take University ave to Florida and turn north about a block..then east about 1 1/2 blocks...is along an alley on east edge of a 3 story house on the north side of the street.Yellowish versicolor type.I want some of this one myself. PLEASE take no cuttings without permission!!Think as if they were your yards.North park and Hillcrest area has many brugs growing there. Mission Hills nursery in NW Hillcrest area sells some of my hybrids..and others..so does Walter Anderson Nursery on Enterprise st near the airport. Enjoy!!

Kyle,
We went to Balboa Park area today...got the picture of the Brug on the corner of Laurel and Front st. We also went to the park at Balboa...super nice....will be going back there Monday or so to visit the rose garden.

We didn't make it to North Park and Hillcrest yet...maybe tomorrow.

Don't worry about me taking cuttings....I have more then I know what to do with at home already. LOL

I know where the Anderson Nursery is on the North end of San Diego but I'm sure I can find the one by the airport.

We had a great day today and could do this looking at plants everyday.

Hello to all and will report back tomrrow.

MSJen,
Ronbob's pollen should arrive by Monday...Hope he can make us some fine double pinks. LOL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Gloria, if he does this now, you'll have to name your first double pink after him.....Ronbob double pink.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Glory I always spead 80% of my time in San Diego at the nurseries around the county.Quail Gardens in Encinitas has a great bunch of Brugs..at least they did have when I was there last time.Thats where the Versicolor alba original plant came from. :-) Funny I was offered the job as rose gardener a few years ago (5) and declined it..I couldn't afford to move then.I know a lot of the city workers there. Check out the palm grotto west of the organ pavilion..and the lath house near the Zoo.

Me again,
Guess what I was able to get with my pure Southern Charm...2 nice seed pods off the Brug at Linclon.... the Brug tree wasn't in the alley but hanging over the fence next door. I was able to talk to the owner of the house and asked if I could have the seed pods that were dried and hanging off the tree. He was a very nice man with a British accent...he was working in his yard as we drove by.

We also drove around that neighbor and found a few more houses with Brugs in the yards. I was able to get pictures of golds/peach and whites. Will post all the pictures when I return home.

We also went to the beach at PB....beautiful....boy is that water cold.

Bye for now....more tomorrow.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory......I told ya there was lots of brugs in that area.People there really like them..low maintainence plants. Most people there are very friendly too...did you notice that? More than midwesterners really.Thats what I always liked about North Park area of San Diego. :-)
Some day I'll move back there.

Kyle,
I agree but I already knew that....my son-in-law is from San Diego and he doesn't meet a stranger.

I ended up with 160 seeds from the two pods that I got from the man on Lincoln.....hopefully something will come from them.

Quiet day today....DD has work to do so we'll just hangout but tomorrow we'll hit the nurseries in San Diego. Is there anything special I need to be looking for? LMK

Bye
Gloria

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glory, that goldfinger plant!!! we all want one! what color was the plant you got the seed pods from? have fun for me too, i'm not having much! is your email working? might ask you a favor.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Hi, Glory! I've been gone for a few days and just got back and see you are in San Diego. Have a great time and enjoy your family. Give Jess a hug from me. Roz

Arlene,
Yes, My email does work here.
The Brug that I got the seeds from was a Charles G. looking one to me....but what do I know. LOL We will be nursery hoping tomorrow...I will be sure to look for the Goldfinger plant.

Roz,
Jessie and I have been having a ball....she is such a sweetheart. I was wondering if they would miss her here if I took her back with me....right.

The weather is just super....temps in the 70's and low 80's and no humidity. Today we are off to the Rose garden in Balboa Park....again. I just can't describe how lovely the roses are.

Gotta run.
Glory

Just got back from Andersons nursery. The only Brug that had a name was Charles G....smooth leaves. The other Brugs had the usual....white...pink..etc.

They didn't have any of the Goldfinger Plant and never heard of it. I think that the Goldfinger Plant is going to be something that is not going to be offered her but I'll keep looking.

Talk more later.
Gloria

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Someone explain what this goldfinger plant is..give it a botanical name...I may know a source..or can find one. :-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

http://floridafriendlyplants.com/PLANT_LIST/GOLDFINGER_PLANT/goldfinger_plant.html here's a link, no one has found one yet.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Logees has it in their catelog but they have been out of stock for a couple of months now, I know I keep trying to order it. sigh

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I have this plant in my collection ..I got it at a nursery in San Diego a few years ago.Its not very impressive..believe me.....rank, loose growth habit and blooms for a while in the heat of summer..small nonfragrant flowers. They carry them at Kartuz nursery in Vista calif.about 30 minutes north of San diego. :-)

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i bet it would do good in this florida climate. the site does say they have to be cut back. well, glory, guess you can call them and see? i would love to try one. kinda surprised, don't think they've listed them on line, lots of us have ordered from kartuz.

Arlene,
I'll check it out and let you know. Since we are on the North end of San Diego it's about 45 minutes to one hour to
Vista from here....I'll call some closer nurserys tomorrow and see what they have to offer.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Glory, please don't go so far out of your way for me. goodness knows i have more plants than i know what to do with. i read a post tonight and realized what one of my plants in a pot is that i had forgotten i had, was frozen back this winter. just a few more to go!
i need a check up on pollen collecting... take off the antlers, i mean anthers and just shake it off into a container to dry? maybe i should make my kids watch while i tell them how important it is. love to drive them crazy, turn about is fair play...i used to have a brain.

Arlene,
no problem...I'll be happy to check out that plant.

Arlene,
Just called Kartuz in Vista and they do not have the Goldfinger plant....he recommended Logees. I told him they were out of stock for now. I did find a nursery in DeRay Beach FL that sells it....www.rareflora.com
The cost is $12.00 for a 4"pot plus $6 something shipping. I'll keep looking around here just in case someone might have it but doesn't know the name.

More later

Sounds like I better propagate my Juanulloa...it only has two tips. Its a survivor though.Stands up to all kinds of abuse. :-)

Kyle,
Sounds like a great idea...it's a hard plant to find.
I checked out a few more places today while we were out but no luck.

Glory

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory....I think I got this one at either Mission Hills nursery or Walter Andersons. Was just sittin there looking forlorn..but had 1 flower on it...personally I think its overated. :-)
