I realize I'm new here, and I hate to step on anyone's toes, but I wanted to throw out at least this one option for all of the algea concerns.
It seems many forms of algea are very easily compostable in a very short period of time.
I have found that just "flopping" a rake into the pond and dragging out what you can is an easy way to collect it. The second step is to scoop it up and put in in a bucket (or leave it piled on the ground in a hidden spot.)
All the algae I have ever used this method on is thoroughly broken down within the week!
It is incredible "compost fertilizer" for blooming flowers and vegetable gardens.
One word on the buckets -- drill drain holes in the bottom and around the sides for air to circulate.
If you have massive amounts of algea, use a large Rubbermaid tub or plastic trash can.
You will be amazed at the "non-chemical" results.
Good luck!

One answer to algae control
oh, I totally agree with scooping out string algae!!! wish that was what I had. I've got the pea soup kind (dont' know the name of it :)
Welcome to Dave's, and we're all here to learn and share what we know. thanks for the input.
hay , you learn something new everyday! Welcome. it takes lots of words to form a sentence. if ya know what I mean. We al learn from eachothers strengths and weaknesses.
LOL, tiG - I have the same pea soup stuff you have, but I'm not sure I'd prefer string algae! (Of course, it can be removed, whereas this other stuff has to be worked on to get it to go away....)
Welcome to DG, GraceGarden! (And yes, when I find string algae, into the compost heap it goes. Along with everything else that never squawked, bellered, or moo-ed before we cooked it ;0)
Welcome! Gracegarden to our little community...I see you live in big 'ol Texas...
I love your screen name! Seems I know someone else that has that name too!
Well enjoy and I'll see ya around!

Hehehe, Rebecca, I just found this. Yes, you do! I also just read today that Wintermoor didn't know it was me when I responded to his email, until he opened it, since I use Grace as my ISP username. So, from one Grace to another, but I am still Aimée to most, Hi, again.
