Daylight is getting longer and Scheeflöckchen has its funny sprouts again. During summer, the leaf is very narrow with dark green wavy edges. The middle of the leaf has a lighter green. After the sprouts gain a length of about 30 - 40cm, the leaf starts growing and looks like any other normal Brugmansia leaf.
The funny leaf of Schneeflöckchen (Snowflake)
Hi Monika...LOL...you must be lurking around the same time as me..LOL! That's a very unusual leafed Brug! Is the over all effect nice?...or is it just a curiosity? What are the flowers like?
Monika is it just the shorter days or is cool weather also a factor?
The leaves are very unsual. The flowers are small, about 23 - 25cm, white and look like the one parent Taunusgold. Its sister is double to triple pastel apricot, but the leaves are normal. Both are Allee Trees, but I gave the double to my sister, because its milder climate. If it continues to drop most of its buds, it will be composted in the fall.
i shudder when i hear people composting their brugs...
I don`t like it either, Joydie, but if a Brug has permanent faults, there is nothing much left to do.
I am growing out several crosses (not mine) and will cull them at several stages. First stage I will cull everything, that don`t grow fast and healthy. Next I will cull everything not showing flowers or (due to the short season here) show the tendency too. Last cull will be undesirable colors in flowers or something looking like already made hybrids. When I stand with (hopefully) a few good selections good either as new hybrids or for further hybridizing, I will inform the hybridizers and let them make the decisions and to give them names.
If you do all of this, there will be not many left for flowering, Tonny, LOL!
Schneeflöckchen has these narrow, wavy leaves only during the summer.
