Well, it's been long enough to safely say that all but one of the flowers I pollinated have taken and the little pods are growing. Some of the calyx's have fallen off on their own but some are still on the stem with the pod growing inside. The Solid Gold has kept all her calyx's on.Since I promised Kyle I would'nt touch them I figured I better ask if it's ok for the calyx's to stay on them and let the pods develope inside them or if they should be taken off to prevent the pods from rotting.
Seed pod question
wow!! congrats and best wishes for all those little babies.
Snow, surrogate for brugman (brugman please come home!!!). he always lets the calices stay on. i had a ball last fall picking them off dr suess, was quite fun as it was large, feeling to see if i felt pods and ripping them off!
Snow,
I on the other hand I remove mine but that's because I like to see them mature.....call me nosy. LOL

Thanks tiG, Arlene and Glory. Hmm, think I'll leave them on for awhile then. They're still pretty small. Maybe when they get bigger I'll take one off and see how it goes.
Snow, an alternative to completely ripping them off is to take a razor or scissors and slitting them from bottom to top(just be careful and don't damage the pods). I lost a couple to rotting by not removing the calyxes, and when I removed the ones I did, there was water inside like drops of dew on the pod. Also, leaving the calyxes on gives insects a place to hide, especially aphids. Just a thought.
BTW, where is Brugman?
tiG talked to him, and I think all is okay. Haven't seen him or Kyle post lately.
