Lapageria rosea

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Anyone have any experience with this plant? I'm the proud mama of a couple of babies. So far 2 out of 5 seeds have sprouted. Now what do I do? Wait 5 years - lol!

poppysue,
I'm not sure as I only have one vine that is growing very well. I started it from seed last October but found it tends not to flourish over the winter. It really did take off though this spring.

Joydie - do you grow it in a container?

Hamilton, Canada

Poppysue,
I'm gowing it in a container as I have to bring it indoors over the winter in my area. I took 4 internodal cuttings last week and they are all now rooted. As I only have the one plant I wanted to make sure I have "backup" plants in case I lose the mother plant. I also promised Cala a rooted cutting. I'll search the net and see what I come up with regarding this vine and let you know.

Poppysue, here are two links that should be helpful. The second one is slow but seems to have a lot of information. My lapagerias aren't doing much right now but I do see a few new leaves finally coming. I also think they like soil similar to rhododendrons. The danes call it sour soil (sorry can't remember the english name at the moment). Good luck!

where did u buy the seeds?

MaVieRose, there's a guy in Holland who has seeds that germinate at an amazing rate. I believe he's the first hyperlink I put in. I would highly recommend you talk to him about trading for seeds. Good luck!

I think i saw seeds for this
in Shumway's catalog.

I got my seeds from Chiltern's Seeds - in England. I guess the success rate depends how fresh the seeds are. These were in a plastic zip baggie and still moist. I planted them and kept them in the fridge for 3 months.
