wilting brugs

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i have some brugs in sun from sun up to 4-5 o'clock. most don't wilt at all. i put an aurea straight out of the box into this kind of sun and it hasn't wilted once. mostly i did use watersorb except the ones planted last year.
a trading friend once told me some plants just like you to feel sorry for them, i am wondering because when they get in the shade they don't show any damage? or is it the kind of brug that is more sensitive? and if i just leave the wilting ones where they are will they toughen up?

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I think it's different for different types. As for mine, yesterday,I planted some trees for shade. It will be a few years before they are big enough to do any good.In the meantime, they either toughen up or die.I will keep soaker hoses on them during the summer. My Sanguinea and Roter Vulcan,as expected, have already graduated.

I can`t answer your question yet, Arlene. Two of the six Brug cuttings I bought in the nearby supermarket and plantet in the ground has lost their leaves and one has the top wilting. I just leave them to toughen up, if that is their decision to live. I think, what will happen is, that these will wilt to the ground and shoot from the basal part of the stem under soil ... at least it is what I hope for

I almost got sick the other day. I turned around and my 3' Butterfly was laying on the pot. It went from fine to flat in no time. I staked it up and it seems to be doing fine, it's been 3 days now. I had the same thing happen to Whiskers, it's still staked and growing. Whiskers (mine) seems to have a very thin trunk compared to others, don't know if it's a fluke or the way they all are.

tiG... my whiskers is just the oppisite. It has very heavy stock its growing in daple shade and has never wilted.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

checked the Butterfly this morning, and the trunk is still extremely weak. these two are the only ones doing this. and they haven't grown near each other, no bugs, no mottling. just need something to go right for a change:)

tiG,
My Whiskers has a very thick trunk too....even the seeding of the Whisker cross have nice trunks.

tiG, when I take late cuttings and grow them during winter, mine do so too. I think they grow up with out the neccessary light and become tall and slender, instead of short and thick. My spring- and summer cuttings develops strong, thick stems.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, what can I do to help it along? should I just start another? this whiskers is 4' tall!!!! I will keep it staked until it blooms, but if it will always be weak, then I want to start another.

hoping that someone can answer my last question, so bringing this back to the top :)

tiG,
I can't answer the question for you but I can get you a Whiskers started if you want.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Glory,

Whiskers, Becca Lynn and Jessie Noel that you gave me are about 3 ft now. Do you think they will bloom this year or will I just have to view pictures and wait till next year for blooms? They are very sturdy and thick with leaves.

Dee, you're gonna have blooms!!!!! the season is young.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh goody!!!

Arlene will post a picture of my double white candida that I was telling you about. One bloom was single and the second one is a double. Sure does look funny with the flower as big as the plant.
