Seems to be more variegation on yours than the ones I got. You might really have something special there and to get them from seed? Wow!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Wow. I agree with you Brugie. Hopefully ours will start to get more color in them. I bet they are going to be absolutely beautiful. Can hardly wait to see the flowers.

Looks like you've got some real winners there. Can't wait to see them when they're big.

So far every seed I planted(12) from this batch has variegated leaves. No too shabby!

Kyle, if variegated Datura plants can be raised out of seeds and it fails ( so far ) with Brugmansias, then something different causes the variegation in Brugmansia.
Maya belonged to the batch of brugs, to be raised out of tissue culture for Virus free stock. After the procedure, Maya had plain green leaves, no variegation anymore.

I also have a variegated Datura inoxia (Datu-64). When I grew it the first time it was isolated, because I feared it might be virus infection causing the variegation, but I don`t think, that it ever infected other plants with its "variegation".

We will see if the albino brug seedling I have will live and grow or die.It may turn golden instead of white..since golden coloered plants contain Chlorophyll it may live as it has a slight yellow hue now.((Jumping up and down )) I hope it lives. :-)

Kyle,

They are certainly looking nice. They do have more variation than the ones we order. Now you will have to get busy and plant the rest of those seeds.

Do I sense a new introduction "Kyle's variegata" coming out next year. Put me one your client list when they are ready.

Tonny did you get anymore variegated plants from your inoxia? Oh by the way you have mail coming. I tucked in a few little extras for you. Let me know when it arrives.

joydie....if it stays this color like they did years ago..then we will have to propagate them by cuttings.I saved seeds before from this mutation and all seedlings were albino and died shortly after germinating. If I get these big enough for cuttings later this summer I will post it so we can spread this mutation around. :-)

Joydie, thanks :-) I will be looking for the mailman *lol* Since we had moved I am a little late sowing and transplanting . I just sowed 60 more Datura entries today and transplanted hundredsat were already up *lol* Big Datura time here *lol* Looking forward to yours coming :-)

The variegated I have was from a batch of seeds coming from (think it was) Impecta Handels in Sweeden. The label said D. meteloides, but contained no less, than three different varieties of D. meteloides and a variety of D. inoxia. The last one all with variegatet leaves. I of cause splittet the four different types up and gave each an entry number (Datu- 64, -69, -70 and Datuu-76. Datu-64 was the inoxia. It has a large germination percentage and all seedlings are variegatet and seem to grow fast and produce lots of seedpods :-)

I don`t know, what effects the variegation of my plant. Previously I assumed automatically, that it was caused by virus, but of cause mutation can also be an answer. Do you want me to mail you some?

:-)

The variegation can also be caused by MLOs. They can harm a plant but in case of variegation, its liked.

MLO, is it not some miscroscopical organisms related to bacterias and living in the cell juices?

Do you know more about these, Mnika?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

MLO are mycoplasma-like organisms. To differ them from human and animal like plasmas, they call them Phytoplasmas. Many Phytodiseases are caused by this MLOs and because lack of knowledge they were placed as Virusdiseases. You know, that a Virusinfection can be definited as such only, when the so called Koch'sche Postulate was made and the healthy plant, vaccinated with tissue from a infected plant, shows the same signs of disease or infection. It is very interesting to study a little bit Phytopathology. Plants have, just as mammals, a immun system and you see many things from a different point. Just think about the Virus discussion on Brugmansia.

Tonny,

Sure some variegated seeds sound good to me. Do you have anymore of the "Ida" seeds. I would love some of those if you have them...keep a look out for your "little surprise" I included. :-)

Guist,
You have mail coming also...including a "little surprise".

Joydie

I will be loking for it, Joydie. Won`t you tell now? Its much easier ... *lol* all this waiting time *lol* ;-}

I am currently run out of Ida seeds :`( ... but I have told her to fill both several seed banks and several hybridizers pockets this year *lol* She whispered back, that she agree :-)
