Eyes, what kind of ferns do you need? Do I still owe you Christmas ferns?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I need ferns to go under the trees in the front with my new daylilies from the lily CoOp. I love the leather ferns or anything delicate looking. They will get minimal filtered sunlight. Am opento suggestions.
I never received any Christmas ferns.

I have a wood fern I believe, its the closet thing I could find. I have plenty and it gets very filtered shade in some areas and somewhat filtered in others and does great. let me know.

Eyes, I have some seeds from last year for Mexican Hats and Gaillardia, but I'm not sure which one is which. If you feel brave I would love to send you an assortment. I was thinking about tossing them along the highway fence but it got too late too soon, and now the weeds are there until I get the tractor tire up. Let me know if you can use any of the miscellaneous wildflower seeds. Oh, they aren't cleaned. I sort of decided if Mother Nature didn't clean them, I didn't need to, so I just put them in the fridge to kill any bugs.

Shannon, you have mail. Aimee what a sweetheart you are! I have the seeds for both, but they have failed or I have failed to produce anything out of them. Go ahead and sprinkle them by your fence line...Mother nature is so much smarter than the rest of us!!!!

Have you considered yarrow? It is feathery and delicate looking and attracts butterflies and hummers. And the white flowers are so neat looking when most things are dead. They will grow in sun or shade, but the ones in my pasture seem to prefer the shade.

eyes... don't give up on the gaillardia, not as yet. i planted some seeds. i planted some spring of 2000. i gave up on them then. last Nov. i saw these strange looking plant where i planted the gaillardia seeds. i never recognized them at all. am way too familiar with local weeds here. but never pulled any of unknown gaillardia. i am glad i didn't. Jan. of this year, i see these greenish buds. i waited patiently, voilá came the lovely and colorful gaillardia bloom. one observation though, they sure are slow grower for me.

Aimée... are gaillardia slow growing plant? this is the first time i planted them. i've move and transplanted some of them around... and they are sturdy! they never wilt or show any sign of stress when transplanted. TIA.

In your case, YES! But not ordinarily. They come up here about when the bulbs have finished blooming, and they are blooming their heads off from around mid to late-April until September or maybe till frost. But if you had a hybrid, it might act differently. The ones on our highways and in my pastures are all the wild kinds, various types. G. aristata and G. pulchella seeds are sold by Wildseed Farms, and in their catalog they specify germination time as 15-45 days, and optimum soil temp for germination, 70°-75°F.
